Wirral manufacturer and exporter Heap & Partners is continuing to thrive with robust revenues and profits in its 100th year as a limited company.

Based in Birkenhead, Heap & Partners was actually founded by William Heap in 1866 as a partnership. But the firm was not registered as a limited company until March 19, 2024.

Last year it celebrated its 100th birthday and the firm has just posted its annual accounts, for the 12 months to March 31, 2024, on Companies House. It is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and distributors of fluid control equipment.

Specialising in equipment for oil and gas, sub-sea, pharmaceutical and nuclear markets, Heap & Partners has supplied equipment to more than 85 different countries around the world.

Its latest accounts reveal revenues of £8.8m for the 12-month period. This was down from just over £9m in the previous year. Pre-tax profits also fell from £401,831 in the previous year to £201,863. Dividends for the year totalled £100,000.

However, in the annual report, managing director and owner of the business, David Millar, said the lower figures were due to “the timing of when jobs shipped”. He added the business had paid off a Government-backed CBILs loan secured during the pandemic.

“Development work has continued and has resulted in the launch of two new products… sales have been pleasing and the products well received,” said David, who owns the business via another entity called Teal Holdings.

Heap & Partners founder William Heap spent his lifetime working around the world as chief bridge builder to Thomas Brassey, the pioneering Victorian civil engineer who was responsible for building many of the world’s railways in the 19th century.

As well as its Birkenhead base, Heap & Partners currently operates from three other offices inLondon, Teesside, and Derry. During the accounting period it employed 42 people.

Speaking during the company’s birthday celebrations in 2024, David Millar said: “It is a tremendously proud moment for each member of the Heap & Partners team to mark the centenary of our incorporation.

“I like to think we are as passionate today about what we do as our forefathers were a century ago. We now look ahead to the next 100 years where we hope to grow further, instilling the same values we have always had.”
