Latest new easyJet route takes off from Liverpool John Lennon Airport taking passengers to one of the most picturesque locations in eastern Europe. Tony McDonough reports

A new easyJet route to Split in Croatia has taken off from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

This service to one of the most picturesque locations in eastern Europe is one of eight new easyJet routes being launched from LJLA by easyJet this summer after the carrier placed its eighth aircraft here.

This new plane will support 400 jobs and cements easyJet’s position as the biggest airline at LJLA. This latest route to Split will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays all year round.

As the largest city on the Croatian coast, Split has a history going back to the Roman period. It offers ancient ruins, “chic shops” and open-air flea markets. And the stunning Adriatic coastline is home to pretty beaches and tranquil turquoise waters.

Paul Winfield, director of aviation development at LJLA, said: “It’s great to see easyJet add another new destination to their Liverpool network.

“It is the first time that passengers from across the North West and North Wales will have been able to fly on a scheduled service from the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport direct to Split from here, opening up easy access to this popular part of Croatia.”

This summer, package holiday provider easyJet holidays will see holidaymakers departing from Liverpool opt for popular beach and city destinations including Amsterdam, Antalya, Dalaman, Mallorca, Sharm El-Sheikh, and now, new package holidays to Spilt.

Over the past 12 months, easyJet has continued to grow its network at the airport, having launched eight new routes from Liverpool including Malta, Fuerteventura, Prague, Berlin, Marrakesh, City of Derry, Sharm el Sheikh, and Split.
