Mayor Steve Rotheram meets trainees at Legacie’s The Gateway in Liverpool

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram visited Legacie’s The Gateway development on Leeds Street in Liverpool to meet apprentices and trainees.

During his visit, Mayor Rotheram had the opportunity to meet with the apprentices employed by Legacie and partner RWInvest at the scheme which is  a flagship development in Liverpool’s Pumpfields district.

As part of its Bright Futures scheme, Legacie, supported by sales partner RWInvest, welcomes young apprentices and trainees from Merseyside each year, who are not currently in education, employment, or training.

This scheme offers them full-time, paid apprenticeships in construction, hands-on experience on-site, mentorship from experienced staff, and a degree-level industry qualification in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University.

“We’re proud of our Bright Futures initiative and its impact on the lives of young people across the region,” said John Morley, founder and chief executive of Legacie.

“By offering these apprenticeships, we’re not only helping individuals build fulfilling careers in construction, but we’re also contributing to the regeneration of our local communities.

“The Gateway is a brilliant example of what can be achieved when we invest in both our infrastructure and our people.”

More than 30 people have already been employed on-site at the Gateway with an estimated 500 supported through the local supply chain. Seven trainees and apprentices have been employed through Legacie and RWinvest as part of Bright Futures.

Work has already started on the Gateway development which was first announced in August 2023. It will comprise 656 apartments and will offer a selection of one, two and three-bedroom homes.

“It was fantastic to meet the apprentices and learn about the skills, trades, and opportunities for learning and development at Legacie and RWInvest,” said Mr Rotheram.

In the week before the Gateway visit Legacie also welcomed Labour MP Darren Jones, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and Mr Rotheram to its flagship £100m Parliament Square project in the Baltic area of Liverpool.
