Founder of fast-growing Liverpool freight forwarder Trinity Logistics, Amanda Unsworth, joins high level city region trade mission to China. Tony McDonough reports

Liverpool maritime and logistics entrepreneur Amanda Unsworth sets off this week [Friday May 23] as part of a high-level Liverpool city region trade mission to China.

Amanda, founder of the fast-growing Trinity Logistics based at the Port of Liverpool, will join other city region business leaders, politicians and academics on the trip which will take in a number of Chinese cities.

Trinity currently employs a team of 12 at its Liverpool office, with plans to expand. The business provides services extending to all national ports and in 2018 it established a sister office in Shenzhen to accommodate a growing portfolio of customers in China. 

It was named International Business of the Year at the Liverpool Chamber Innovation in Business Awards 2024. While on the trade mission Trinity will be visiting Shanghai and Ningbo.

Since the opening of the Liverpool2 deep water container terminal by Peel Port in November 2016, trade between China and Liverpool has grown significantly and this latest mission aims to further strengthen those links.

“Liverpool2 put Liverpool firmly back in the premier league of global ports and our growing trade with China is critical to the growth of the port and the prosperity of the wider city region,” Amanda told LBN.

“As a city region we can never just rest on our laurels. We have to work hard to maintain existing international relationships and forge new ones.”

Amanda adds that China is just one of Trinity’s key markets and that the company’s ambition is to be the “go-to” freight forwarder in the North West. She said: “We can provide completely bespoke logistics solutions.

“There are sector growth areas we are looking at, in particular construction and manufacturing, which have been identified as key to national and regional economic recovery.

“I believe that we can directly support that strategy. We offer competitive rates and a knowledgeable and personable service, that together with our unique position at the Port create a fantastic proposition.

“And since the inception of Liverpool2 there’s never been a time when Liverpool has been better positioned to take advantage of transatlantic trade, an area we are also keen to expand.”

Former deputy mayor of Liverpool, businessman and a veteran of Chinese trade missions, Gary Millar, will also be making the journey along with Liverpool City Council cabinet member for growth, Cllr Nick Small.

Gary added that it will be an “absolute pleasure” to spend time with Amanda and her colleagues as “we bang the drum for our ports and maritime sector”.

“Firstly, it is going to be exciting helping decision makers better understand how companies like Trinity Logistics keep businesses, imports, exports and supplies moving globally,” he explained.

“Secondly, it’s going to be fun and productive explaining to students and their families how wonderful Liverpool is as a place to study.

“Thirdly, we have an amazing opportunity to highlight the opportunities the city region offers those willing to invest, including in foreign direct investment, in sectors, in businesses, and in employment and skills.”
