A Liverpool city centre restaurant scoops award for having ‘the best pizza in the UK’ at the national Italian Awards. Tony McDonough reports
Crust wins ‘Best Pizza in the UK’ accolade at 2024 Italian Awards
Liverpool restaurant Crust serves the best pizza in the UK according to the judge of a national awards.
Located in Bold Street, Crust won the Best Pizza in the UK at the Italian Awards for a second time. It was competing against venues in England, Wales and Ireland for the coveted accolade.
Crust opened in 2015 and is owned by Italian brothers Paolo and Donato Cillo, who are also behind the city’s Italian Quarter in Williamson Square, Il Forno, all-day eatery Botanico in Woolton Village and Gran Caffe on Duke Street and Lark Lane.
With a menu filled with traditional pizzas including its Napoletana, Siciliana, Diavola and Zingara, Crust also has a selection of ‘Pizzaficionados’ – the special ones.
These include Straccetti with sliced filet mignon, Porchetta with porchetta roast pork and caramelised onion and Nduja.

Paolo Cillo said: “Crust is home to Liverpool’s best and most authentic pizza. My whole family is from Naples and authentic Neapolitan food is part of our heritage.

Donato Cillo added: “It’s fantastic to have our dishes recognised for their excellence. All of our ingredients are sourced from Italy to ensure that we create only the most authentic, traditional recipes.”
