Retail and leisure complex Liverpool ONE offers grants of £500 to sports clubs and team across the city region
Liverpool ONE is offering grants to sports clubs as part of its Summer of Sport initiative
Sports clubs and teams across the Liverpool City Region will have the chance to win a grant to help fund essential equipment, as part of a new initiative from Liverpool ONE.
The competition is calling on grassroots sports clubs and teams to apply for funding, with six clubs or teams being awarded £500 each to support with items such as kit, equipment or signage, for example.
Timed to coincide with the Paris 2024 Olympics, the competition will run throughout the summer and encourage sports clubs of children aged between four and 16 of all types to enter, from football and boxing to gymnastics…and everything in between.
It is part of the wider Summer of Sport at Liverpool ONE, which includes Chavasse Park being turned into an official Team GB and ParalympicsGB Fan Zone, one of just nine sites across the country.
A giant screen is in place, giving sporting fans the chance to soak up the excitement of the games and cheer on their heroes in the biggest sporting event in the world.
Donna Howitt, place strategy director at Liverpool ONE, said: “Supporting our local community and the future of sport is incredibly important to us.
“We know there are some extremely talented young people across our region and we’re looking forward to hearing from local clubs as part of our new competition.
“Whether it’s helping buy kits, funding away game travel or support with new equipment, we want to support sports clubs and help to make a difference.”
The competition officially launches to coincide with the first day of this year’s Olympics, Friday 26 July, running until Friday, August 30.

As part of their entry, clubs are asked to explain what they would spend their money on, describe the history of their club and what the sponsorship would mean to them.
Donna added: “We’d encourage sports clubs of all different types to get in touch – we’re confident that there’s a whole host of teams out there who would hugely benefit from a cash boost.”
