More than 400 students at Wirral Met College have taken part in a “transformative” life and career coaching programme.

This six week course was delivered by the college in partnership with the John Haynes Foundation. Established in 2021, the John Haynes Foundation was set up in memory of Liverpool business coach John Haynes, an inspiration to many local entrepreneurs.

John died in December 2020 and in 2021 a number of Liverpool city region business people decided to set up the John Haynes Foundation with the aim of continuing his work and “transforming 1m lives”.

This latest programme is designed to equip students with essential life and career skills, focused on key areas such as mental health and wellbeing, self-belief and resilience, confidence building, goal setting, and accelerated learning techniques.

It was developed in response to the growing recognition of the challenges faced by students in today’s competitive academic and professional landscape.

With increasing pressure on young individuals to perform academically whilst managing their personal and social lives, the college sought to provide holistic support systems to foster personal growth and career readiness.

John Haynes Foundation chief executive Hilda Parker said: “It has been incredibly rewarding to see the students embrace these new skills and approaches.

“Our goal has always been to empower students to take control of their futures with confidence and resilience, along with continuing John Haynes’s legacy of coaching and inspiring a million people to be the best version of themselves.”

Through interactive workshops and peer discussions, participants gained valuable insight into managing stress, setting realistic goals, and cultivating a positive mindset.

“This programme has been a game-changer for me” said one student participant. “It has not only helped me build confidence in my abilities, but it has also provided me with the practical tools to navigate challenges in my academic and personal life.”

The mental health and wellbeing component of the programme emphasised stress management techniques, mindfulness practices, and strategies to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

It also focused on fostering resilience and self-belief, confidence building and goal-setting, accelerated learning techniques and positive outcomes and future plans.

Feedback from students, college tutors and coaches from the John Haynes Foundation has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the noticeable improvement in their overall mindset and approach to learning.

“Our partnership with the John Haynes Foundation has created an invaluable opportunity for our students to develop a wide range of skills that will help them to reach their full potential,” said Gill Banks, Principal at Wirral Met College.

“We are delighted by the positive impact this programme has had on so many of our students and their confidence.”
