A showdown between developer Romal Capital and property giant Peel has started in the High Court.
Romal, which has already built hundreds of apartments at Central Docks in Liverpool Waters, is seeking millions of pounds in damages from Peel (L&P) Ports in a dispute over the developments.
It has already completed one development at Central Docks comprising 372 apartments and is currently on site at another scheme which will add a further 195 apartments.
This showdown in the High Court sees Romal seek damages over alleged breaches of an agreement for lease of land at Central Docks. Romalโs claims Peel breached the contract between them by making a series of planning applications.
It says these applications conflicted with Romalโs proposed development, making it significantly more difficult for Romal to obtain its own planning permission. Peel denies wrongdoing and is defending the claim in full.
A spokesperson for Romal Capital said: โOur commitment to the Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme is unwavering and we regret that this dispute has reached the courts.
โWe have always remained focused on delivering homes of quality and distinction, rooted in place-making and community for Liverpool.โ

The hearing began on Monday in the High Court Business and Property Courts, Liverpool District Registry, with the trial expected to run for three weeks.
Romal says it will not be providing further comment while the trial is underway and Peel also told LBN it would not comment while the case is ongoing.
In a separate dispute, Romal has lodged a formal complaint with energy regulator Ofgem over what it claimed were unacceptably high costs for connecting utilities to its projects.
