‘Mersey Makers’ festival taking place this spring

A Liverpool city centre square will be taken over by ‘innovators’ this spring when the Mersey Makers festival will showcase ‘talent, creativity and entrepreneurs’. Tony McDonough reports

A one-day festival to showcase “talent, creativity and entrepreneurs” is taking place in Liverpool city centre this spring.

On Thursday, March 20, the Mersey Makers festival will take place outside The Plaza in. St Paul’s Square, off Old Hall Street, from 10am until 2pm. Free to attend it will feature stalls, entertainment and workshops all on the theme of innovation.

Organised by Bruntwood SciTech, owner of The Plaza, Mersey Makers will include a pop-up indie market featuring 20 stalls spanning traders, makers and innovators as well as food, drink and entertainment.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the crafts, processes, and innovations behind the businesses, and buy high-quality, local products.

Hands-on and interactive workshops will also take place inside The Plaza throughout the day allowing visitors to learn about creative processes behind successful local businesses.

Kate Heathcote, community engagement manager for Bruntwood SciTech, said: “Our aim for the Spring Festival is to showcase the amazing talent that Liverpool has to offer, and the fantastic innovations homegrown in the city.

“There’s going to be an impressive mix of traders selling their products, as well as offering insights into the creativity and technology behind their business making it a valuable experience for people to come along to eat, drink, shop.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to The Plaza and St Paul’s Square and to see the buzz that the event will bring to the city centre.”

The Spring Festival will also include an Innovation and Business Growth Breakfast event organised by the company at its neighbouring Cotton Exchange building.

It will offer tech, digital and innovation-led businesses the opportunity to showcase their companies and follow with a panel discussing the support available for such businesses to drive momentum and growth and scale Liverpool’s tech sector.

Supported by Liverpool BID and the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, the Spring Festival aims to celebrate Liverpool being one of the UK’s leading cities of innovation and showcase its most exciting, pioneering and innovative business ventures.
