Italian brothers Paolo and Donato Cillo – who own multiple restaurants in Liverpool – take over the running of the city’s sky-high Panoramic 34 venue. Tony McDonough reports

Two of Liverpool’s best-known hospitality entrepreneurs are to take on Panoramic 34 which sits high above in the city in West Tower.
Italian brother Paolo and Donato Cillo already operate multiple Liverpool venues. They include Gran Caffe on Duke Street, Lark Lane, which opened a year ago, and in the Italian Quarter, Crust on Bold Street, Antonietta, Hey Farina and Brunchin’ and Botanico in Woolton Village.
They have teamed up with Sham Jagota. Who runs the neighbourhood eatery Al Dente on Lark Lane, to acquire Panoramic 34 in the 40-storey West Tower.
Completed by developer Beetham in 2007 at a cost of £35m, West Tower is a 40-storey residential tower. Panoramic 34, which sits on the 34th floor, is a restaurant and bar that offers spectacular views across Merseyside and North Wales.
Paolo Cillo said: “We have been operating hospitality venues in Liverpool for over two decades, taking time to carefully understand the city, our guests and the experience that each venue must provide.
“Taking over Panoramic further adds to our growing group of restaurants and cafes, ensuring that we can offer our guests a variety of dining experiences in the city.”
With its breathtaking views, popular afternoon tea, bespoke menus as well as a new and updated bar and cocktail menu that will be available from February 12, Panoramic 34 is open Wednesday to Sunday for both bookings and walk-ins. The new owners say all the current staff are being kept on.

Donato Cillo added: “From casual dining through to gourmet menus and now Panoramic’s fine dining experience, our venues all offer something unique for our guests and we’re proud to be able to offer something for everyone and each occasion.
“Myself and the team are absolutely delighted to have Panoramic as part of our group and would like to thank the previous owner Cathy Frost for this exciting opportunity.”

Although West Tower is still dominant on the city skyline it is being increasingly surrounded by other high rise residential towers. There are now five towers (one under construction) in nearby Princes Dock.
And, just across the Strand, Beetham is teaming up with Home Bargains tycoon Tom Morris to build a cluster of residential towers on what is currently the King Edward Industrial Estate.
Sham Jagota also said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to work in partnership with Paolo and Donato and there is no better restaurant than the beautiful Panoramic 34. Together we will bring our wealth of experience and creative ideas.”
