EasyJet launches two new Liverpool routes

Just two weeks after announcing a new route to Derry from Liverpool John Lennon Airport easyJet with new routes to Scandinavia and North Africa. Tony McDonough reports

EasyJet will offer flights to Oslo, the capital of Norway, from Liverpool later this year

Low-cost airline easyJet is launching two new routes out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

At the end of June easyJet revealed a new all-year-round route to Derry in Northern Ireland. Now the carrier says it will start flying from LJLA to the Norwegian capital Oslo and Sharm El Sheik in Egypt.

Flights to Oslo will take off from Liverpool on November 29 and will operate twice-weekly. First flight to Sharm El Sheik will take off on February 14, 2025, and operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays throughout the winter.

Ali Gayward, easyJet‘s UK Country Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be launching even more new routes from airports across the UK to a fantastic range of leisure destinations, meaning we’re now offering over 41 new routes from this winter.

“By continuing to strengthen our network we’re providing even more choice and connectivity for our customers, whether they’re chasing the winter sun, planning a winter getaway or hitting the slopes and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”

Earlier this month LBN revealed LJLA had handled 2.36m passengers in the first half of 2024 – around 22% higher than last year.

In April, May and June LJLA handled more than 1.4m passengers. This compares to 1.15m during the same period in 2023. In the first three months of 2024 the airport handled 923,500 passengers.

And since the half year point at the end of June the airport has handled another 425,000 passengers, taking the total for the year to date to more than 2.5m.

It means LJLA is well on track to smash through the 5m passengers barrier in 2024 for the first time in several years. Jet2’s launch in the spring has offset the impact of the suspension of the Lufthansa Frankfurt route in February.
